Our Story

Golden Hour is a mother-and-daughter studio on the North Shore of Oʻahu.

We're Shalane and Anna. Shalane dreams up every design by hand, sketching each piece in her notebook long before it's ever made, and I, Anna, set every one by hand in our little studio at Sunset Beach. It started the way the best things do: with a love for the ocean, and for the rare, glowing shells it gives up only to those who go looking for them.

Our sunrise shells are some of the rarest in all the Hawaiian islands. They're brought up by a local family of divers off the North Shore, and from everything they gather, we keep only the ones that hold a whole sunrise, the corals, the golds, the blush, the rare all-white "albino" shells, and if we're lucky, that whisper of green.

In old Hawaiʻi, the sunrise shell was so treasured it was reserved for aliʻi, Hawaiian royalty, believed to carry good fortune, hope, and protection to the one who wears it. To hold one was a rare honor, and we think of that with every piece we make.

Every piece is entirely its own. Because no two shells are ever alike, no two pieces are either. Each is bezel-set by hand in 14k gold fill, shaped to fit its shell's exact curve, nothing rushed, nothing mass-made. Just one beautiful thing at a time, made to be worn and kept for years.

That's why we release our pieces in small drops. A shell this rare, sketched, set, and finished by hand, can't be made on demand. It's made with patience, and with all the heart, spirit, and love we have.

Every piece carries a little of that with it, a piece of a Hawaiian sunrise, made by hand, meant to be yours.
We'd be so happy to have you join the Golden Hour Hawaii family!
